The invasion of Poland by Germany starts at 4:45 a.m. when the Kriegsmarine's battleship Schleswig-Holstein opens fire on the Westerplatte" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="text-blue-600 hover:underline dark:text-gray-300 dark:underline dark:hover:text-gray-100">Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte in the Free City of Danzig on the Baltic Sea, but the attack is repulsed.
